the afterlife of the cocteau twins
hey ya'll,
i don't know how many cocteau twins fans we have here...all is eerily silent given the amount of contribution to trip hop that the Twins Elizabeth Frazer and Robin Guthrie have provided. So i'm going to try to begin to fill in that gap.
for those of you who read your liner notes, Liz Frazer in addition to cocteau twins, has provided vox for massive attack's masterpiece mezzanine. she also did the brilliant cover of tim buckley's song to the siren while working with This Mortal Coil. the song actually appeared in the movie lost highway, but lynch/reznor neglected to put it on the soundtrack out of respect to not capitalize on frazer's heart renching performance... but that's all old news... (cue replies about frazer's recent whereabouts)
Robin Guthrie has been very busy as of late... working with Mono's siobhan de mare on Violet Indiana (Nova--you're a fan too right?)... which is better than mono in consistency (i always thought mono was kinda hit or miss... some tracks i can't stand, while others i'll leave on repeat for an hour)... but guthrie also did this overlooked sideproject with Sneakster titled 50-50 (a reinterpretation of a few of their songs from pseudo noveau)... its only a few songs, but trip hop definitely worth checking out.
anyone know of any more cocteau connections, i'd love to hear about them...
d.
