anyways.. like some of the others here, i cannot wait for the release of Wholeness And Seperation, the new full length by the band, but in the meantime, ive been chomping away at the "Wholeness EP" for a while now and felt it was my duty as an enthralled fan of this band to spread the good word: THIS MUSIC IS GREAT.
its amazing when you hear her vocals seep through on the very first song how nostalgic it sounds. being only moderately fond of "we only love you" but appreciating "wiser" to the fullest, this ep blows anything theyve done in the past away without question. the music is so crisp but silky and flowing... with a set of good speakers the music sounds like its oozing out of every square inch of the room you are in, its basically the halou progression you were expecting.. its more mellow, more soothing, more cathartic, an extremely comforting 6 songs that are crafted so perfectly... those who continously doubt triphop and the quality of good music must definitely put this EP at the top of their wishlist. the songs hook you in immediately, ive been listening to this thing a lot and im not even close to burnt out of it, if anything its transforming and morphing itself with each new listen. the 2nd track (ingenue) has those great muffled vocals (think "political" from the Wiser album)... where it sounds like she is right up to your ear whispering.. the music is very deep and meant to strike home, thick cellos mesh with aquatic underwater ambient blurbs to create an atmosphere you just want to sink into the bed/chair and hope the song never ends.. the next song (the ratio of freckles to stars) is probably the standout, at least for me.. by the time the chorus hits 90 seconds into the song, the ethereal chimes and bass lines have opened themselves up to possibly the most insanely exquisite chorus ive heard in a song.. pretty bold statement but i stand by it :) the lyrics are sang with such convincing delivery. the following 2 songs are good in their own right, but probably my least 2 favorite off the ep (but still incredible, and better than just about anything ive heard this year). the album closes with "Firefly", a song sounding like it was lifted from the first Alpha album "come from heaven". complete with a warm summer night feel and gentle vocals which are occasionally streamed through some spacey effects.....
wow i really got carried away with this.. but i suggest you all check this thing out. im sure a couple people will reply saying they dislike this (people always must disagree with me!), but you have to at least give it a chance... if you dont you are just being unfair to your ears, brain, and contention with life :) anyways, if this turns at least one new person onto Halou then its worth it, this band deserves support!
