microbunny / archive / craig armstrong
Moved this here, cuz I think it will get lost in that crazy "what are you listening to" post...
As everyone on soulseek knows I love Microbunny... just got Craig Armstrong and Archive (been waiting for months on this)
Impressions:
Archive...is not as good as I expected from the talk on here but still really good. It is not the definative trip hop album in my opinion. To me it seems more like it fills a niche that was not necissarily filled before. Good stuff. I think the female vocalist sounds like Skye Edwards a LOT and sometimes like Lou Rhodes and Kelli Ali. The guy I can't place... seems really familiar... sounds kind of like Q-Tip from tribe called quest at times to my ears... a friend of mine thinks he sounds like the rapper from Dream Warriors.
Craig Armstrong...floored me completely. Its simple beauty is amazing. I think that this CD, more than 100th Window fills my Massive Attack quota for the year. Kind of makes me understand some of the dissapointment in 100th window by others.
Microbunny...is my new favourite band. Can't help it, for me they are a breath of fresh air to the genre. I'm considering picking up some King Cob Steelie (canadian indie band) since I went to the Microbunny website and found out that Al Okada (Microbunny) was thier guitar player before starting this project. This CD also gives me an idea of the fresh ideas others were expecting with 100th window and didnt see.
I feel very fortunate to have been introduced to three masterpieces in one month. And now back to Archive - Darkroom
[...still like 100th window, just have more perspective now...]
