Nicola Hitchcock from Mandalay has returned!
Before the band split up, Nicola posted the various side projects she would be involved in on the Mandalay message board. 2 more songs have just been released! Both songs are on the new "Sounds From The Ground" album titled "Natural Selection." Nicola does vocals on the tracks "Moving Into A New Space" and "I Forgive Me."
"Moving Into A New Space" is a pretty good track, reminiscent of earlier Mandalay work. I kept waiting for the song to take off into something really melodic and amazing, but it stays pretty mellow througout the whole song - very pretty nevertheless though.
"I Forgive Me" is definately her best track on the album though! It is extremely different from any of her previous work, almost breat beat/funk in style with a very dark overtone. I usually like Nicola's ballad work, but this track is definately awesome. "Moving Into A New Space" didn't really showcase Nicola's vocal talent, but her voice is suited very well to "I Forgive Me."
Unfortunately, those are the only two tracks on the album with Nicola but there is one more very good track on the album titled "Lean On Me" featuring a singer named "Colien." This is the first single and is my favorite song off the album, my next being "I Forgive Me."
Anyways, the good news is, you can preview the entire album, the full tracks and everything for free at the NuTone Records website at www.nutonemusic.com
This record was just released, I believe 2 days ago and is available in the U.S. There is still nothing on the web related to Nicola's recent or upcoming work, including the very myterious Nicolahitchcock.com which has never opened, rather has just said "Under Construction" for over a year now. Does anyone have any news!?!?!?
