Covers

After listening to Tricky's new album vulnerable for the past week or so, I started to realize that my favorite songs were his covers. For those who haven't checked the CD out yet the songs I am referring to are Tricky's covers of XTC's "Dear God" and the Cure's "Love Cats." I had actually never realized the Love Cats was a cover song, then again my knowledge of the Cure never really surpassed their remix album Mixed Up. With that being said, I had an idea of creating a compilation trip hop/downbeat covers and the only other songs that come immediately to mind are Massive Attack's version of "Light My Fire," which I guess would go back to Shirley Bassey or the Doors, if not further and Echo's version of Astrud Gilberto's The Girl from Ipanema. I'd kind of prefer for the covers to be more downbeat than lounge, though optimally a 2 CD set of downbeat and lounge covers could be cool too, but I'm a little unsure of what other songs I should include.
