About Freezer room
Drawing from a wealth of experience in electronic, rock, hip-hop, jazz and classical music, FREEZER ROOM has recently put the finishing touches to its debut e.p. Formerly the engine room of popular and innovative Irish band The Shades, production department (producer Graham White and DJ Colm Kenefick) and rhythm section (bassist Rory Dempsey and drummer Jean Michel Cavallo) are again working together to create something different. The band is loosely based in Cork, Ireland but has a tendency to travel. The recording of their debut self-titled e.p. has taken them to New York, London and Antibes in the south of France.
Coffee drinker Graham has been writing, producing and arranging music for well over ten years. He has always stuck to his roots electronic music coupled with live instrumentation - and has developed quite a unique sound which has received a lot of attention in recent times. His style is varied - intensely dark at times, almost happy at others.
Jean Michel played in many rock bands in his native France before making the move to Ireland. He played drums with successful rock outfit Cyclefly and released on MCAs Radioactive label. His hard-hitting style is much admired and has been well reviewed in numerous publications such as drummers bible Rhythm Magazine.
Following his degree in Ireland, Rory went to study double bass at the Royal College of Music, London. He regularly plays with orchestras there and in Ireland, as well performing with his jazz trio. He has been a member of energetic Irish house act Cartoon and has recorded extensively for other people on both electric and upright bass.
Colm Kenefick is a well known hip-hop and soul dj throughout Ireland and has played alongside the likes of Kenny Dope, Gilles Peterson and many more. He represented his country at the Red Bull Academy in Rome 2004 and in recent years has begun producing his own music. He currently holds many residencies as a dj all over the country. The core members were joined by many old friends (and some new faces) during recording. Electronics, beats, double bass, turntables, trombones, sax, guitar, violin and viola combine to make this all new big-band sound
