Help me find some new music! I've rated my albums to help.
Right now I own a smallish trip hop album collection, and I want more. I'll list what I have and how I like it, then hopefully you guys can give me suggestions! I'll rate the albums from a 1(bad) to 10(good) scale:
1*. Mezzanine, 10
2. blue lines, 9
3. protection, 9
4. 100th window, 7
5. No protection, 6
5. Danny the dog, 5.5
5. Maxingquaye (and angels with dirty faces), 5.5
6. Jackie cane, 10
7*. New stereophonic sound spectacular, 10
8. Blue wonder power milk, 10
9. Magnificent tree, 8.5
10. No more sweet music, 8
11. Becoming X, 10
12. Big world small world (smith+mighty), 9
13. Portishead/dummy, 8.5
14. Entroducing (dj shadow), 10
15. Understanding/melody a.m. (royksopp), 7.5
16. Talkie-walie (air), 8
*my two favorites
I seem to prefer bass heavy, dark trip hop I think. Portishead is too low-fi sounding to compete with massive attack IMO. Big world small world was close, but the rap/reggae influence sortof throws it off from being a 10. Talkie walkie was alright but it wsan't dark enough. As far as tricky, it's choppy and hard edged, I don't dig it that much, and the beats don't seem clean to me.
I know there are a lot of bands out there that I haven't heard, so hopefully you guys can point me in the direction of stuff I'll like.
