trip hop, with instruments
So heres my deal
iv always been a guitar-oriented person musically, especially rock music.
a little over a year ago i heard my first portishead album, dummy of course and of course loved it, now their my favorite band of all time.
iv got all their stuff and been loving it for a long time now, but i do definitely need some new stuff and have been out checkin stuff out.
so anyway, typical story right
i guess my issue is, all the stuff iv been getting is so synthesized...massive attack and tricky ( i really enjoy some of their tracks) but i just gotta have some more "band" sounds you know,
i discovered morcheeba a few months ago and have since gotten all theri albums and i am amazed to say that theres only (probably less than 5) songs by them i dont like.
so what im getting at hear...it seemed to me that portishead was a real band you know, drums guitar, vocals, and i loved the bass and the turn tables...the harmonica?? on pedestal...i just need real instruments because the techno/dj style stuff isnt diong it for me.
i got this mix trip hop album called absolute trip hop with these tracks on it
37. Portishead - Mysterons (5:41)
38. Hooverphonic - 2 Wicky (4:42)
39. Death In Vegas - All That Glitters (6:30)
40. Kid Loco - You Who Are Reading Me Now (5:35)
41. Morcheeba - Small Town (5:04)
42. Nightmares On Wax - Cruise (7:02)
43. Azymuth - Cuica Laranja Azeda (7:43)
44. Sin - Where Shall I Turn (5:59)
45. Massive Attack - Protection (7:50)
46. Dj Cam - Pure Pleasure (4:59)
47. Portishead - Glory Box (5:36)
48. Dj Krush & Toshinori Kondo - Shan-Ka (4:38)
49. Hector Zazou & Harold Budd - Panda In Tandem (5:33)
the thing is though...other than the portishead and morcheeba...i dont really like any of it...it seems kinda boring you know? like it sjust missing hooks or catchyness...i dunno maybe thats just me
i also got the following albums which i dont really like at all (i know its weird to list stuff you DONT like but im just trying to give you all an idea of where im coming from, not hate)
bjork-medulla
theivery corporation - cosmic game
tv on the radio - desperate youth blood thirsty babes
i also love radiohead...but i cant stand kid a...if that helps.
so anyway the question is...are there any other trip hop bands that use real instruments? or is it mostly gonna be techno style stuff
the stuff about portishead i really enjoyed, was the heaviness of the bass..the drums..and of course the really pretty vocals. darkness and spookiness...
can anyone think of anything i might like?
(sorry about this being so disjointed...hard to put all this into a block of text for me)
