New to Trip Hop

I haven't necessarily heard any trip-hop, but I was listening to the spooks(with Ming Xia on the vocals MMMMM I love her voice). Well I was reading a review of their old album S.I.O.S.O.S and somebody said something about them sounding similar to trip hop.

I LOVE the spooks.
Especially 'Things I've Seen' 'Karma Hotel' etc.Mainly because of Ming Xia's voice.

What I'm getting at, is I want to know who I should look for in trip hop, I don't want to purchase any albums and them not have the sound I want, or should I try downloading a few specific songs first?

Somebody give me some ideas of who to check for with the sound I want.

With the corniness flooding rap music(eminem,50cent etc, rap died for me along with pac and big.), I'm reading for something new.
