Tricky
Tricky, real name Adrian Thaws, was born in the small British town named Bristol, where also portishead and Massive Attack come from. He was one of the early members of Massive Attack until he left MA to make his own LP "Maxinquaye" ( named after his mother Maxine Quaye, who commited suicide when he was a child ---> "every body wants to know what my momma did... I'm naked, and famous"). This was the beginning of a great solo career and he has produced 5 LPs so far: Maxinquaye, Nearly God, Pre Milleinum Tension, Angels with Dirty Faces and his latest LP with Dj Muggs and Grease "Juxtapose". But Juxtapose isn't quite his favourite LP, he even appologied himself to his fans for this album, because it was far below the expactations and too much influenced by the record company, rather than by himself. He has been occupated by some projects then, such as the "Baby Namboos", which is his cousin's band, where he provided most of the vocals, and in fact, "ancoats to zambia" sound quite trickylike. Another project has been "Product of the Environment", where real London Gangsters talked about their lifes and crimes, backed by tricky produced sounds. Then he split up with his former record company Island and joined Epitaph, where he releases "Mission Accoomplished", which is a 4 track EP where he worked together with eastcoast rappers we know from juxtapose and the vocalist of the "Baby Namboos". It also contains the track "divine comedy", which you might now from bootlegs. His new LP "Blowback", released in summer 2001, is partly his most radiofriendly LP so for, especially "Evolution Revolution Love" featuring Ed Kowalczyk, the lead singer of the band Live. This time he took many collaborators on board, such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Girls, #1 Da woamn), alanis Morisette (Excess), Cindy lauper (Five Days) as well as the jamaican rapper Hawkman and the female singer Amber Sunshower. Blowback is propably his most accessible and most positive album.
