Thievery Corporation
On a spring evening in 1995, over a drink at Washington DC's Eighteens Street Lounge (also the name of thir own label they founded), Rob Garza and Eric Hilton decided to combine their produktion efforts and form the Thievery Corporation. They both admire brazilian music and disdain the majority of modern music. Thir style reaches many styles, from bossanova jazz, brazilian music, dub and trip hop. "I think that ours is a sound which takes from so many forms of music thats it's fairly hard to pin down. It is made electronically, but i dont think it sounds that way." explains Hilton. With their first LP "Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi" and the track "Shaolin Satellite" they made their way to the turntables in the big clubs and onto Kruder & Dorfmeisters "Dj Kicks". Of course they had the honor to release a K7 Dj Kicks themselves too. Their next LP "abductions and reconstructions" they released the best of their previous remix works, containing remixes of Stereolab, Hooverphonic, Rockers Hi Fi, Gus Gus and many more. Their latest album "The Mirror Conspiracy" was a big step forward, as it was the first time they worked together with singers, which was completly new to them. They had to write songs and lyrics now, and their music became much more detailed and better, while the beats on their first album where simpler.
