Morcheeba
Singer Sky Edwards and the to brothers John and Paul Godfrey are some of the younger faces in Trip Hop and their songs are quite various and not as dark as Portishead or some of the other bands. Some critics even envented the word "Trip Pop" for their way of music. There are three LPs out,"Who can you trust" , "Big Calm" and "fragments of freedom". Who can you trust is one of the most important albums in the trip hop genre and kinda represents a new "direction" in trip hop music, besides the bristolians. It contains great vocal songs with strings, as well as more instrumental tracks. The second chapter in their History was "Big Calm", which was a kinda development out of the first one, containing a bigger variety in musical styles and influences, some songs quite into Trip "pop" direction, some more hip hop based or raggae influenced. But still a great album in their unique way that simply touches your deepest inner of your soul. In July 2000 they released their third LP "Fragments of Freedom", which is much more Trip Pop than ever. Seems like they wanted to get rid of being pushed into the trip hop corner, and therefore making nice, faster, happy sound... i guess you call it pop music.
