Monk & Canatella
Monk & Canatella, aka. Simon Russel and James James Jhonston are some good friends of Portishead (their band name was the nickname Geoff Barrow always called them) and surely not worse than Phead.Their LP "Care in the Comunity" (1996) contains a wide range of different styles and songs, from guitar trip hop over intrumentals and more electronical songs. The great melancholy voice of their male singer touches you intantly deep inside when he sings about the joys of lonelyness and sucide. After The Bristol Label "Cup of Tea" stopped its buisness, They joined Telstar for the release of their second LP "Do Community Service" (2000). Right after the LP was released, they broke up with Telstar, and James Jhonston, the singer and guitarist left M&C. For thir tour, he has been replaced with the front woman singer of the Breakbeat Era, Lennie Laws. Right now, Simon Russel is looking for a new record company and collaborates with many different artists in order to record their 3rd LP, and he confirmed, that M&C are still there and didnt split up. He said that M&C can work with a varitey of singers and musicians.
