Artefact
Artefact, a fine pop/triphop act from the Netherlands. The band consists of vocalist Shamangi, producer and composer Maxim Schram, double bass (upright bass) player Thijs Willemsen and drummer Paul van Gerven. Artefact released many albums in the past, all distributed by the band itself. The cd's Earthly Insanity (EP - 2000) and Precious Things (LP - 2001) were the result of a collaboration between producer Maxim and his vocalist (Yvette Roovers). The albums were sold through this website, through a few online stores and during gigs. The Precious Things album got a lot of recognition and inspired many. It can still be requested on demand. In the beginning of 2002 Maxim's collaboration with vocalist Yvette came to an end and Maxim attracted vocalist Shamangi. Bassist Thijs Willemsen and drummer Paul van Gerven joined later that year. The combination of these musicians proved to be a magical one when Artefact became the best new Dutch act by winning "De Grote Prijs van Nederland", the most important music contest of The Netherlands. The jury called Artefact "A very warm act. The arrangements are well thought out and the music is exciting. On top of that they have an enchanting singer and a great drummer." Paradiso, November 2002 In November 2002, Artefact released the demo EP One of a Kind. In a reaction to the release leading Dutch music magazine OOR (Feb 2003) refered to Artefact as "A new style of music which goes deeper than the triphop of the nineties. Fantastic vocals in a bed of warm and sparkling sounds....This has to get big!" A new release is planned for June 2003. Recordings are currently being finished in Holland's renowned Wisseloord studios.
